We have now finished our first full year of the Hope Refugee Sewing Project! Thank you most heartily and sincerely for all you have each done, whether through donations, teaching, advice/suggestions, encouragement, or any other bit of support. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
The final project was a joy. We used the pillowcase sundress pattern to help the participants create sundresses for their little girls. For those without young daughters, the “dresses” were adapted into a cute summer shirt. This final week of the program brought a great turn-out of teachers and provided nearly each of the 17 sewing students individual attention at some point during the afternoon. A huge thank you to Maya of mayamade and Jen of the Red Instead BLOG for letting us use their wonderful pillowcase dress tutorials!
Sewing students and teachers completed surveys about the project during the last workshop. We will now be reviewing the feedback so that during our summer interim we can analyze and assess the project and plan for the upcoming year. So many good possibilities are ahead to be investigated and worked on over the summer.
It is amazing how much interest continues to surround this program. Even at this last week’s project, we were surprised by the arrival and attendance of three new students! We are delighted to have them join us and thank the teachers who helped these gals out at their first and last sewing class for the year. Thanks for being so flexible and accommodating!
We will work to keep everyone informed of developments and plans for the Sewing Project. Likewise if you have any new information or suggestions, please be in touch with us too!
Happy Summer!
